THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGAGEMENT
Imagine trying to connect with someone in the real world without ever saying or signing a word… yeah, that’s not gonna happen!
First and foremost, what we need to remember is that the digital world is just as REAL. Social media isn’t kept alive by bots, it’s fuelled by real, human interaction—and us humans generally gravitate towards connections (and content!) that add value to our lives.
Those very same humans are the ones that can support your business. Building a following of people who love what you do and offer is a stepping stone to truly beneficial possibilities such as making sales, gaining loyal customers and having the good word of your brand shared with others (gotta love that organic awareness and growth)!
But seeing as sliding into their DM’s is a little unwelcomed role reversal, it’s important to grab the attention of your potential fans in other, more crafty ways.
Believe it or not, that’s not quuuite as simple as “make content, post content.” If you’ve heard of Facebook’s algorithm, you’ll know that it is the gatekeeper of the world’s content...and it changes. FREQUENTLY.
For our friends who have no idea what we’re talking about, Facebook’s algorithm determines what posts you see in your feed and the order in which they appear based on activity gathered from ranking signals, aka and put simply: a variety of factors. The current ranking signals of 2020 are:
Who a user typically interacts with
The type of media in the post
The popularity of the post
This little three-pack decides whether your business page will show up in someone’s feed, or not… but the overarching key to success is making engaging content.
Think about the last post you tagged a friend in or reacted to: was it a sponsored post that you appreciated because it didn’t feel too ‘salesy’? Was it something that made you laugh? Was it a video that moved you? Or even a caption that told a captivating story?
Either way, it was engaging, right? You could see the person behind the brand and how they made an effort to please you, especially if they respond to your comments should you make any! Engaging content + engaging with your followers is one terrific mix for building beneficial relationships and reach.
